About Neoprocris floridana

Neoprocris floridana, commonly called the laurelcherry smoky moth, is a moth species in the family Zygaenidae. It has been recorded in the southeastern United States. Almost all records are from Florida, with only two exceptions: one specimen recorded in Lee County, Alabama, and one in Aberdeen, North Carolina. As its common name implies, the species is thought to feed mainly on laurelcherry trees (Prunus caroliniana). Since Prunus caroliniana grows across the entire southeastern United States, it is reasonably suspected that Neoprocris floridana migrates through and lives in multiple, if not all, southeastern states.
