About Neoniphon marianus (Cuvier, 1829)

Neoniphon marianus, commonly called the longjaw squirrelfish, is a species of squirrelfish. This species occurs in the Western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the Florida Keys south to Trinidad, and is found throughout the Caribbean Sea. It inhabits areas near reefs, at depths between 1 and 70 metres (3.3 and 229.7 ft), and is most commonly found between 30 and 60 metres (98 and 197 ft). Fully grown individuals can reach a maximum total length of 18.0 centimetres (7.1 in). Neoniphon marianus is a nocturnal species. Its diet consists mostly of shrimp, but it also feeds on crabs.
