About Neonemobius palustris (Blatchley, 1900)

Neonemobius palustris (Blatchley, 1900), commonly called the sphagnum ground cricket or marsh ground cricket, is a species of ground cricket belonging to the family Gryllidae. This species is found in eastern North America. Males of this species measure approximately 5.7 mm in length, while females reach about 6.8 mm; these length measurements include wings and exclude ovipositors. Most individuals are dark brown, though lighter brown specimens have also been documented. These crickets are most often found in dense, damp patches of sphagnum moss. They also occur in sandhill seeps and wet longleaf pine savannas. Their song is made up of several-second long trills, separated by pauses of roughly the same length as the trills.
