About Neomolgus littoralis (Linnaeus, 1745)
Neomolgus littoralis, commonly called the intertidal red velvet mite, is a species of snout mite that belongs to the family Bdellidae. This species occurs along shorelines in North America, Europe, and Japan. Adult individuals of this mite can grow up to 2 millimetres, or 0.079 inches, in total length. Neomolgus littoralis is red in color, with ridges on its abdomen, white hairs covering its legs, and characteristic long snouts. It preys on small insects, including kelp flies.
