About Neolygus viridis (Fallen, 1807)
Neolygus viridis, formally described by Fallén in 1807, is a species of true bug. It is distributed across the Palearctic realm, ranging from Europe (excluding the southern portions of the Mediterranean) east to Siberia and the Russian Far East. The species is common and widespread in Central Europe. It inhabits semi-shady to open locations with high humidity, such as woodland edges, meadow edges, and also occurs on isolated individual trees. Neolygus viridis lives on deciduous tree species including Tilia, Alnus, Rhamnus, Salix, Betula, Acer, and Corylus. Members of this species are occasionally largely predatory. This species overwinters in the egg stage, and produces only one generation per year. Adult Neolygus viridis emerge starting in June, and all adults die no later than September.
