About Neohelice granulata (Dana, 1851)

Neohelice granulata is a species of crab that belongs to the family Varunidae. It is the only species in the genus Neohelice. In 2009, it was estimated that N. granulata is the sixth most frequently studied crab species. The species is found in the south-western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from Laguna Araruama in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil to Golfo San José, located on the north side of the Valdes Peninsula in Patagonia, Argentina. In the wild, the diet of Neohelice granulata mostly consists of sediment, Spartina, and plant-derived detritus.
