Neoaratus is a monotypic genus of flies, meaning it contains only one recognized species. That single species is Neoaratus hercules, commonly known as the hercules robberfly. This insect species is endemic to Australia. It is a large predatory robberfly, found in the southeast of the Australian continent as well as in Tasmania. It can grow up to 4 centimeters in length. It hunts and feeds on other insects while in flight. Its preferred habitat includes forest and woodland areas.
