About Neoantrodia serialis (Fr.) Audet

Neoantrodia serialis (Fr.) Audet is a species of polypore fungus that belongs to the family Fomitopsidaceae. Elias Fries first described and named this species as Polyporus serialis in 1821. Canadian mycologist Serge Audet reclassified the species, moving it to the current genus Neoantrodia in 2017. This is a widespread fungal species that causes heart rot in living trees. In North America, Neoantrodia serialis is frequently mistaken for Neoantrodia serialiformis, a closely related species that looks nearly identical morphologically, and which grows on oak trees.
