About Nembrotha cristata Bergh, 1877
Nembrotha cristata, first described by Bergh in 1877, is a large black nembrothine nudibranch, often referred to as a nembrothid in older scientific literature. Individuals of this species grow to at least 50 millimeters in length. The entire body of Nembrotha cristata is covered in raised green nodules, and its rhinophores and gills have green edges along a black base. Apart from this distinct coloration, the species looks very similar to Nembrotha yonowae. This species of sea slug was originally described from specimens collected in the Philippines. It is found throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific Ocean, where it lives on coral or rock reefs at depths ranging from three to twenty meters. Individuals have a maximum lifespan of up to one year.
