About Nemateleotris magnifica Fowler, 1938

Nemateleotris magnifica, commonly known as the fire goby, is a species of fish that typically has a bright yellow head which transitions into a white body, that gradually shades into a red-orange tail. This species has a very long dorsal fin that it flicks back and forth, a movement used as a signal to other members of the same species. Full-grown adult individuals reach a maximum length of 9 centimetres, or 3.5 inches. This species inhabits parts of the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its range extends from the East African coast in the western Indian Ocean eastward to the Hawaiian Islands in the central Pacific Ocean. Within the Pacific Ocean, its range stretches south to the Austral Islands of French Polynesia and north to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan.
