The elegant firefish, scientifically known as Nemateleotris decora Randall & Allen, 1973, is a slender, colourful fish. Its dorsal fin contains 7 spines and 27 to 32 soft rays, while its anal fin contains one single spine and 28 to 31 soft rays. This fish has a purple head, and its main body is whitish or yellowish, which gradually darkens to deep grey as it approaches the tail. The fins of the elegant firefish have longitudinal bands colored purple, red, black, and orange.
