It is distributed across most of Europe and North America, with confirmed records from Maryland and North Carolina in the United States. Its typical habitat is woodland areas. This moth has a wingspan measuring 12 to 15 mm. Adult moths are active between June and August. The larvae of Nemapogon clematella feed on fungi, specifically including the species Hypoxylon fuscum and Fomes fomentarius.
