Nectopsyche exquisita (Walker, 1852) has a long, slender body that measures between 11 and 17 mm in total length. Its antennae feature alternating bands of white and brown. The species' wings are covered in patterned yellow and white hairs, and have four distinct black squares along the posterior margin. This species is most commonly found near slow-moving water that contains aquatic plants. Its range covers the eastern half of the United States and the southeastern portions of Canada.
