This beetle is native to North America, specifically recorded in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. It lives in habitats ranging from low elevation areas to upland regions, and is most often found along the edges of streams. Adult Nebria eschscholtzii are nocturnal and carnivorous.
