Neanura muscorum (R.Templeton, 1836) measures 3.5 mm in length. Its body is covered in warty bumps and long setae, and it has a bluish grey coloration. This species has three ocelli and does not possess a furca. Its diet consists of small plants and fungi that grow on tree bark. Like many other Collembola, Neanura muscorum is prey for a wide range of predatory arthropods.
