Navarretia pubescens is an annual herb that is hairy and glandular. It grows a reddish or brownish stem that reaches a maximum length of around 33 centimeters. Its leaves are split into many linear or needle-like lobes, which may sometimes be clustered. Upper leaves are hairy, while lower leaves are generally hairless. The inflorescence is a cluster of many flowers, surrounded by leaf-like bracts and covered in downy or glandular hairs. Each flower measures just over one centimeter long, is blue in color, and has a purplish throat.
