About Navarretia prolifera Greene

Navarretia prolifera Greene is an annual herb. It has branching or whorled spreading stems that grow up to around 16 centimetres tall. Its leaves are either threadlike in shape, or divided into threadlike lobes. The inflorescence is a cluster of flowers, surrounded by hairy, leaflike bracts that are divided into pointed, needlelike lobes. Each flower is roughly one centimetre long. This species is divided into two subspecies: subsp. lutea produces yellow flowers, while subsp. prolifera has purple flowers with yellow throats. The less common subspecies, ssp. lutea, is only known to occur in El Dorado County, California.
