About Narthecium californicum Baker
Narthecium californicum is a species of flowering plant that shares the common name California bog asphodel. It is native to the mountain regions of southern Oregon and northern California, where it grows in wet habitats including streambanks and meadows. This is a rhizomatous perennial monocot that grows an erect stem that can reach up to around 60 centimeters in height. The base of the plant is surrounded by linear, grass-like leaves that grow up to 30 centimeters long. Its inflorescence is a raceme holding many yellow flowers, each with six pointed tepals no longer than one centimeter. The fruit it produces is a lance-shaped capsule that contains many bristle-tailed seeds.
