About Nalassus laevioctostriatus (Goeze, 1777)

Nalassus laevioctostriatus is a species of darkling beetle belonging to the family Tenebrionidae. This species was originally described by Johann August Ephraim Goeze in 1777. It is classified as a saproxylic species, meaning both adults and larvae feed within dead wood. They also feed on fungus-infected wood as well as the fungi themselves. Adult beetles occasionally feed on pollen and nectar. Nalassus laevioctostriatus individuals grow to between 7 and 12 millimeters in length. In the United Kingdom, this species is commonly known as the common darkling beetle.
