About Najas minor All.
For identification, Najas minor All. grows in dense clusters and produces highly branched stems. These stems break apart easily, and the plant can reproduce both from stem fragments and from small seeds that grow along its stems. Its small flowers grow in clusters along the leaf axils. The leaves are opposite, unbranched, strap-shaped, and reach around 4.5 centimeters in length, with serrations that are visible to the naked eye. Morphologically, this species is similar to coontail or slender naiad. In terms of distribution, Najas minor All. is widely distributed across the Northern Hemisphere, including Canada, the United States, Japan, China, and Europe. While this species has been reported from tropical Asia (Thailand), this report is now recognized as an identification error.
