Najas flexilis (Willd.) Rostk. & W.L.E.Schmidt, commonly called slender naiad and nodding waternymph, is an annual aquatic plant. It is native to parts of North America and Europe. In Europe, it is native to northern and central Europe, ranging from Norway to Ireland to Switzerland, across Russia including Siberia; its European range also includes Scotland, Poland, and Sweden. Across its European distribution, the species is rare, strictly protected under Appendix I of the Berne Convention, and its largest known population occurs in Lake Sīveri, Latvia. In North America, it is considered native throughout most of Canada, the northern United States, and has disjunct populations in the southern U.S. states of southern California, Arizona, Missouri, South Carolina, and Utah. This species grows in shallow bodies of both brackish and fresh water, including lakes and bays.
