About Myzornis pyrrhoura Blyth, 1843
The fire-tailed myzornis (Myzornis pyrrhoura Blyth, 1843) is a small warbler species. Individuals measure 11 to 13 cm (4.3–5.1 in) in length and weigh 10–13 g (0.35–0.46 oz). This species has bright green plumage, with a black mask surrounding the eyes and black scalloping on the crown. Its wings are patterned black and white with a bright red streak, and the sides of its tail are also red. It has a long, slightly curved black bill. This species is distributed across Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is a common species on the upper ridges of the Sikkim and Arunachal Himalayas, found mostly between 9,000 ft and 13,000 ft, with elevation changing based on climatic conditions and seasonal variation. It prefers habitats including bamboo thickets, Rhododendron shrubs, birches, and junipers. It undergoes some seasonal movement, descending to lower altitudes in autumn. Fire-tailed myzornis feed on insects, spiders, small arthropods, as well as fruit, nectar, and tree sap. In India and Nepal, the breeding season runs from April to June. The breeding season may be longer in Bhutan, as juveniles have been observed there in mid-September.
