About Myzomela jugularis Peale, 1849

The sulphur-breasted myzomela, with the scientific name Myzomela jugularis Peale, 1849, measures 10 cm (4 in) in length. Its upperparts are black with a scarlet rump, and its underparts are pale yellow-white. Its curved bill and feet are black, and males have a scarlet crown. This bird is endemic to Fiji, and it is the smallest resident bird species there. It breeds on all Fijian islands except Rotuma. It is a commonly seen bird in gardens, rural forests, mangrove habitats, and among coconut trees in disturbed areas. Its natural habitats are tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.
