About Mythimna impura Hübner, 1808
Scientific name: Mythimna impura Hübner, 1808. Technical description and variation: The forewing is ochreous with a rufous tinge. The veins, particularly the median vein, are whiter, and are bordered by fine brown streaks; these fine brown streaks also appear in the interspaces. There is a dark shade below the median nervure, and a black clot at the lower angle of the cell. Only the dots on veins 2 and 5 are visible from the outer row of dots. The hindwing is dull grey. The aberration ab. dungana Alph., found in Turkestan and Tibet, is a darker, more fuscous form where the dark streaks become obscured. The aberration ab. transbaikalensis Stgr. from Transbaikal has forewings dusted with red brown, and dark streaks that are almost completely gone. The aberration ab. amurensis Stgr. is entirely darker; its forewing has more distinct white veins and more distinct dark markings. The aberration ab. fuscipennis nov. [Warren] from Calabria and La Grave, Hautes Alpes, is smaller than the typical form, and its hindwing is blackish fuscous. For additional information see Hacker et al.
