About Myscelia ethusa (Boisduval, 1836)
Myscelia ethusa, commonly known as the Mexican bluewing or blue wing, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. Its scientific name was originally described by Boisduval in 1836, and the species was first documented by Louis Michel François Doyère in 1840. This butterfly's range extends from Colombia northward through Central America to Mexico. Occasional strays can be found as far north as the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States. The wingspan of Myscelia ethusa measures between 64–76 mm, which equals 2.5–3.0 inches. This species produces multiple generations each year. The larvae feed on plants from the genus Dalechampia, while adult butterflies feed on rotting fruit.
