Myrrhinium is a plant genus in the Myrtaceae family that was first formally described as a genus in 1827. This genus contains only one currently recognized species: Myrrhinium atropurpureum Schott. This species is native to South America, where it occurs in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, southern and southeastern Brazil, Uruguay, and northern Argentina. Two varieties of this species are recognized. Myrrhinium atropurpureum var. atropurpureum is found in southeastern Brazil. Myrrhinium atropurpureum var. octandrum Benth. is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, southern Brazil, Uruguay, and northern Argentina.
