It is heavily distributed along Australia's southern coastlines, and also has some presence in inland areas of the country. The average body length of a worker Myrmecia nigriscapa is 17 to 25 millimeters. Queens are larger, with a body length of 23 to 26 millimeters, while males generally reach only 16 to 20 millimeters in length. The species' head, thorax, and node are red; its legs are yellowish-red; and its mandibles and clypeus are reddish-yellow.
