About Myripristis adusta Bleeker, 1853
Myripristis adusta Bleeker, 1853 reaches a maximum total length of 35 centimetres (14 inches). This fish has an oval, laterally compressed body with quite large scales. It has large eyes, consistent with its mainly nocturnal lifestyle. Its base body color is pale pink, with deep blue to black margins on each scale. The median fins and caudal fin have a broad deep blue to black border along their outer edges. Individuals of this species usually aggregate in small groups, often in mixed-species groups, and feed primarily on plankton. This nocturnal species inhabits tropical reefs, where it hides in caves or under ledges during the day. It occurs at depths ranging from 1 to 25 metres (3.3 to 82.0 ft). Note that the source text incorrectly lists distribution for Myripristis berndti rather than Myripristis adusta, stating that M. berndti is widespread across the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
