About Myrichthys breviceps (Richardson, 1848)
Myrichthys breviceps, commonly called the sharptail snake-eel, is a fish species native to the Western Atlantic. This eel has a blueish-gray back covered in diffuse yellow spots, and a white underbelly. Its spots are smaller on the head and grow larger across the body. Sharptail snake-eels live along the coasts of the Caribbean Sea, primarily in sea grass beds, on reefs, and in clear waters. While they are a nocturnal species, they can also be observed foraging for food during daylight hours. Their diet consists of small invertebrates, such as crabs. These eels will let divers approach them closely and are easy to photograph, but they will bury themselves in sand if they feel disturbed.
