About Myosotella myosotis (Draparnaud, 1801)
This species has the scientific name Myosotella myosotis (Draparnaud, 1801). For explanatory terms used in this description, see gastropod shell. The shell of Myosotella myosotis ranges in color from yellowish to brownish. It may be either smooth or finely striated, and has a shiny surface. Typically, the shell has 7 to 8 slightly convex whorls. The apertural margin is white, and there is often an accompanying white layer on the parietal side. The parietalis is robust and horizontal, and it is often paired with a smaller secondary parietalis. The columellaris is also strong, and the umbilicus is usually covered. The form denticulata of this species is distinguished by 3 to 6 short, thin droplet-like folds near the palatal margin of the inner lip. The maximum recorded shell length of this species is 12 mm. As a native snail, Myosotella myosotis occurs in Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland, Mediterranean Sea coasts including Spain, Italy, Istria, Dalmatia, Albania, Greece, West and South Turkey, West European coasts extending to Ireland and Scotland, the Black Sea, North Germany, and the Baltic Sea. As an exotic species, it is found on the West Coast of North America and the East Coast of North America. This species lives directly at sea level, specifically at the highest high-tide level. For this reason, both the minimum and maximum recorded depth for Myosotella myosotis is 0 m.
