About Myiagra ruficollis (Vieillot, 1818)

The broad-billed flycatcher has the scientific name Myiagra ruficollis (Vieillot, 1818). In northern Australia, this species is commonly found in moist forests and scrub that surround permanent and seasonal freshwater areas, including billabongs and wet season marshes. It measures 14 to 17 cm in length. The bird feeds on insects and small invertebrates within the forest canopy. Unlike related species that share its range, such as the paperbark flycatcher (M. nana), the broad-billed flycatcher is rarely seen hawking for insects in open areas outside the canopy.
