About Murina hilgendorfi (Peters, 1880)
Murina hilgendorfi (Peters, 1880), commonly called Hilgendorf's tube-nosed bat, has a slender face with tubular nostrils. It has oval ears that feature a prominent tragus, which measures more than half the height of the ear. Its fur is soft, curly, and dark grey, with long silvery guard hairs. This bat flies relatively low over the ground and is capable of hovering. Hilgendorf's tube-nosed bat is distributed across China, Russia (Primorye and Sakhalin), Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Korea, and Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu). It inhabits forests, mines, caves, and tunnels, and is occasionally found in buildings. Typically, it lives alone or in small groups of a few individuals, rather than in large colonies. It is insectivorous, feeding primarily on moths and beetles.
