About Mucronella flava Corner

Mucronella flava is a fungus species belonging to the family Clavariaceae. It was first formally described by English mycologist E. J. H. Corner in 1953. This species has hanging tooth-shaped structures 2โ€“4 millimetres (1โ„16โ€“3โ„16 in) long that grow in clumps measuring 1โ€“5 centimetres (1โ„2โ€“2 in) across; each clump can contain dozens to hundreds of individual teeth. Microscopy may be needed to tell Mucronella flava apart from M. pulchra, and it is also similar in appearance to Phlebia aurea and P. uda. Mucronella flava grows on or underneath conifer logs in North America, specifically along the West Coast and in the northeast of the continent.
