About Montrichardia linifera (Arruda) Schott

Montrichardia linifera, commonly called aninga, is a tropical aquatic helophyte plant native to South America. It can reach up to seven meters in height, and frequently grows in monospecific stands and thickets along rivers, lakes, and other wetlands. M. linifera can be distinguished from the closely related species M. arborescens by key features of its spathe: M. linifera has a greenish-white inner spathe tube and a yellowish outer spathe blade, while M. arborescens has a reddish inner spathe tube and a green outer spathe blade.
