About Monstera tenuis K.Koch

Monstera tenuis, commonly called Chirravava, is a species of flowering plant in the Araceae family. It is native to Central America, ranging from Nicaragua to Panama. This plant grows in wet tropical habitats at elevations below 1,600 meters, or 5,200 feet. Like many other species in the Monstera genus, including Monstera dubia, M. tenuis begins its life on the forest floor. It then grows as a root climber, ascending tree trunks up to 30 meters high in a shingling growth pattern, with its leaves pressed tightly against the trunk's surface. Once the plant reaches a sufficient height, its leaf morphology changes dramatically, developing pinnate leaves and very long aerial roots. The species epithet "tenuis", which means "thin" in Latin, refers to the plant's juvenile leaves.
