About Monstera praetermissa E.G.Gonç. & Temponi
Monstera praetermissa is a plant species belonging to the genus Monstera that is native to Brazil. It grows in wet tropical forests at elevations ranging from 50 to 900 metres (160 to 2,950 feet). This species is most closely similar to Monstera obliqua and Monstera xanthospatha, but it differs from these two species in its native range (Brazil) and the structure of its inflorescence. Like many other species in the Monstera genus, M. praetermissa undergoes a transition in leaf shape as it matures. Juvenile leaves typically occur when the plant reaches about 15 centimetres (5.9 inches) in growth, and adult leaves develop up to five perforations per side. Its species epithet means "overlooked" in Latin, because this species was only scientifically described in 2004 and had previously received little attention from plant collectors.
