About Monstera monteverdensis M.Cedeño & Croat
Monstera monteverdensis M.Cedeño & Croat is a species of flowering plant in the arum family, Araceae. Mature individuals of this species are defined by pinnatifid leaf margins, with up to eight lobes present on each side of a leaf. Occasional fenestrations may form in the leaf blade, positioned away from the midrib. Fully grown leaves can reach up to 60 cm (24 inches) in length and 30 cm (12 inches) in width. This species takes its name from the city of Monteverde, Costa Rica, where it grows in great abundance. Monstera monteverdensis is native to Costa Rica, where it occurs primarily in the Cordillera de Guanacaste and the Tilaran Mountains. In cultivation, this species has often been misidentified as other Monstera species, including Monstera epipremnoides, Monstera lentii, and Monstera lechleriana. Compared to M. monteverdensis, M. epipremnoides has pinnatifid leaves that bear more lobes and produce more frequent fenestrations. M. lechleriana differs from M. monteverdensis in that it retains persistent petiolar sheathes and produces a thicker spathe.
