About Monodactylus sebae (Cuvier, 1829)

Monodactylus sebae, commonly called the African moony, is a species of moonyfish. It is native to fresh, brackish, and marine waters of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, with its range extending from the Canary Islands south to Angola. This species lives primarily in mangrove swamps and estuaries, and it can occasionally be found in lagoons. M. sebae can grow up to 25 centimetres (9.8 inches) in total length, though most individuals do not grow larger than 15 centimetres (5.9 inches) TL. This species is also sold in the aquarium trade.
