About Monardella undulata Benth.
Monardella undulata Benth. grows as a small shrub that can reach up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) across. Its branched stems measure between 10 and 100 centimeters (4 inches to 3 feet 3 inches) in length. Stem hair coverage ranges from sparse to dense, matted, woolly tomentose hairs that give stems a white appearance. Its leaves may be fleshy, and grow in clusters along the stems. The strongly scented flowers are arranged in terminal spikes that are 10–30 millimeters (0.4–1.2 inches) wide, and their color ranges from straw-colored through lavender to rose-purple. This species is endemic to the California coast, from Sonoma County to Santa Barbara County. It grows in several coastal habitat types, including dunes, coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and forest.
