About Monachoides incarnatus (O.F.Müller, 1774)
Monachoides incarnatus, originally described by O.F.Müller in 1774, is also known by the synonym Perforatella incarnata. This species is an air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk that belongs to Hygromiidae, the family of hairy snails and their close relatives. Three subspecies of this snail are currently recognized: Monachoides incarnatus amatus (Stabile, 1859), Monachoides incarnatus incarnatus (O. F. Müller, 1774), and Monachoides incarnatus welebitanus (L. Pfeiffer, 1848). The species is widespread across Europe, and reaches its highest abundance in Central Europe. Documented countries where it occurs include the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine, alongside many other European nations.
