Its elevation range varies by country: 1,500 to 3,100 m (4,900 to 10,200 ft) in Colombia, 1,000 to 2,100 m (3,300 to 6,900 ft) in Ecuador, 1,000 to 2,400 m (3,300 to 7,900 ft) in Peru, and 1,600 to 1,900 m (5,200 to 6,200 ft) in Bolivia. The Andean motmot primarily lives in humid montane forest, often near streams. It can also be found along forest edges and in secondary forest.
