The Japanese mole, scientifically named Mogera wogura (the subspecies covered here is Mogera wogura robusta Nehring, 1891), is also called Temminck's mole. In Japanese it is written as 土竜 or コウベモグラ, which literally translates to "Earth Dragon". This mole species is endemic to Japan.
