About Mochlus sundevallii (Smith, 1849)
Mochlus sundevallii typically reaches a snout-to-vent length (SVL) of 6–8 cm (2.4–3.1 in), and can grow to an SVL of almost 9 cm (3.5 in). Its dorsal coloration is grayish or light brown, marked with dark brown speckling. On its ventral side, it is solid cream-colored, with the exception of the underside of the tail, which may show speckling. This species occurs naturally in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The Reptile Database additionally records its presence in the Central African Republic and Sudan, and notes its possible occurrence in South Sudan. Its preferred natural habitats are shrubland, savanna, and forest, found across an altitude range from sea level up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft). Mochlus sundevallii reproduces via oviparity.
