About Mitraria coccinea Cav.

Mitraria is a genus of flowering plants in the Gesneriaceae family, which contains only one single species: Mitraria coccinea Cav., commonly known as the Chilean mitre flower. This species is a woody climbing plant, native to Central and South Chile as well as southern Argentina. It is grown as a garden ornamental in cool, moist climates. In Arduaine Garden located in Argyll, Scotland, specimens of this plant have been recorded scrambling over the ground and climbing trees to reach a height of 25 feet, which equals 7.6 meters. Its very attractive, scarlet-orange tubular flowers bloom in late spring and summer.
