About Mitella nuda L.

Mitella nuda, commonly known as naked bishop's cap or naked miterwort, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. It is a perennial, rhizomatous geophyte native to temperate and subarctic regions of northern North America and northeastern Asia. Its native range extends across Canada and the northern United States, and from Western Siberia through Mongolia and northern China to Korea, Japan, and the Russian Far East. This species produces a single, serrated leaf that is not deeply lobed, which emerges on an individual stalk from the ground. The leaf is light green in color, and tiny white hairs grow perpendicular to its surface. These hairs are especially large and noticeable on the upper surface of the leaf, though they also appear on the lower surface. Naked bishop's cap forms low ground cover, and reaches a height of 1/4 inch to 1½ inches excluding its inflorescence.
