About Miqueliopuntia miquelii (Monv.) F.Ritter

Miqueliopuntia is a monotypic genus of cactus belonging to the Cactaceae family. It contains only one species, Miqueliopuntia miquelii (Monv.) F.Ritter, which is native to the Chilean coasts of South America. Both the genus and the species were published in Kakteen Südamerika volume 3, on page 869, in 1980. The genus name Miqueliopuntia was named to honor Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel (1811–1871), a Dutch botanist whose main area of study was the flora of the Dutch East Indies.
