About Mimela junii (Duftschmid, 1805)

Mimela junii (Duftschmid, 1805) is a species of shining leaf chafer in the family Scarabaeidae, subfamily Rutelinae. This scarab species is mainly found in Austria, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The head, pronotum, and inner margin of the elytra are metallic-green, while the antennae are reddish. The elytra are coppery-brown with darker longitudinal stripes. Adult beetles can be found from June through July on flowers, especially elder flowers of Sambucus species; the specific epithet junii refers to the Latin word for June. Adult Mimela junii feed primarily on the leaves of various wild shrubs and grasses. Larvae of this species prefer sandy soils, are rhizophagous, and feed on the roots of psammophilous and herbaceous plants, or on decaying vegetables.
