About Micryletta steinegeri (Boulenger, 1909)
Micryletta steinegeri is a small frog species that reaches a maximum body length of 25 mm (0.98 in). It has a slender brown body with irregular dark markings, and colouration varies widely between individual frogs. The forearms of this species are orange. Breeding occurs in explosive breeding events during late spring and early summer. The tadpoles of Micryletta steinegeri are almost completely transparent. The species' range is fragmented across central and southern Taiwan, and it also occurs in Kenting National Park. Micryletta steinegeri lives in broadleaf forests, and can sometimes also be found in cultivated fields and orchards. Its tadpoles develop in temporary rainwater pools, blocked ditches, and cisterns. This is a rare frog species that is only known from a small number of localities, and it is threatened by habitat loss.
