About Microseris douglasii (DC.) Sch.Bip.
Microseris douglasii (DC.) Sch.Bip. is a plant with highly variable appearance. In general, it is an annual herb that grows 5 centimeters to over half a meter tall from a basal rosette of leaves, and usually has no true stem. Each leaf can reach up to 25 centimeters in length, and may have smooth edges, toothed edges, or edges divided into many lobes. Its inflorescence is carried on an erect or curving peduncle that grows from ground level. The flower head holds up to 200 white or yellow ray florets. The fruit is an achene with a brown to nearly black, sometimes speckled body that can reach up to 1 centimeter long. At the tip of the achene body is a large pappus formed from about five long, bristly, barbed scales.
