About Microsciurus mimulus (Thomas, 1898)

The western dwarf squirrel, scientifically named Microsciurus mimulus (Thomas, 1898), is a small tree squirrel belonging to the genus Microsciurus and tribe Sciurini. It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama. Recent studies have reclassified all currently recognized subspecies of M. mimulus as separate distinct species, though this taxonomic change is not yet universally accepted. A table of the three originally recognized subspecies and their associated synonyms was originally included in this text.
